Original Genes is a hand painted clothing and experience company, founded in Toronto, ON.
Stefanie, a McMaster University graduate, founded the company as a solution to escape her mundane 9-5 job.
Stefanie always had a passion for painting and all things creative, which inspired her to paint a denim jacket one day while at home. She sent a Snapchat of the jacket to her friends who loved it and had one friend ask if she could have one. Stefanie's mom then encouraged her to continue painting on the jackets and selling them, and even went out and bought her 25+ jackets as a way to get her started (thanks mom!).
Since that first jacket, OG clothing has been featured on Cityline and Breakfast Television.
Almost every OG jacket is made to order and Stefanie works one on one with each customer to make their jacket 100% exclusive and irreplaceable. With the nature of each jacket being hand painted, each design is one of a kind and completely unique.
In the last year, OG has expanded into virtual workshops, teaching guests everything from painting on different mediums to general creative tips. Stefanie has worked for several fortune 500 companies and her work has been featured at Hudson’s Bay & DSW shoes.
OG is aware of the environmental impact that wasted clothing creates globally every single year, so nearly every OG jacket is painted on a preloved piece of clothing, and each workshop provides eco-friendly solutions that can be used day to day.
